27 – a geek fest of note!

I attended my first 27 dinner last night. I was quite intrigued. Largely because the last time I saw such a large congregation of geeks was at a LAN party when I still used to have these really el8 and phj33rs0m3 quake skillz and more so because there were a fair amount of not bad looking geeky babes. The only things that were missing were stormtrooper outfits and Magic the Gathering cards.

In all fairness, these were the smart geeks that I believe I’ll find myself interacting with more and more.

I had to unfortunately leave early for another dinner but did manage to catch Colin & Eric’s talks and I got to take home a pair of braai tongs??

Oh yeah! and a cool limited edition Afrigator T shirt entrusted to me by Mr Justin Hartman who happens to be quite a smart dude.
I attended the dinner to network a bit and in the hopes of finding smeone who I could collaborate some ideas with and turns out myself and Justin are definitely on the same wavelength so I reckon we going to work on something on the side, something fun and something that we’ll keep to ourselves until some time later.

Overall I enjoyed myself, met a few people, heard some cool things and saw some faces I hadn’t seen in a while and promised myself that when I do see Tyler again, to give him a sharp smack around the ear for not pitching.

I’ll definitely be at the next one in 2 months time and as soon as the wiki is updated for the next dinner, my name’s going on asap.

oh yeah and Mike should not give up his dayjob to be an MC.
;-)

I’m looking forward to attending my first 27 dinner this Sunday and seeing some old faces like Vinny Lingham who I used to work with and Tyler Reed who I have known for a few years and is someone that I think is going to make a huge dent in the online arena in the next few years with his ideas.

A number of people that I am looking forward to meeting include Vince Maher, Matt Buckland, Justin Hartman to name a few and I’m also looking forward to hearing Colin speak about the ideas for The Times.

If you are going to be attending 27 I am looking forward to meeting you.
